Joining   The   PMRRV


Joining the Poway-Midland Railroad Volunteers is very simple:

1. Print down the Application Form provided as part of this Membership
Information page.

2. Fill out the Application Form for either a Single Membership or a
Family Membership.

3. Make out a check payable to "Poway-Midland Railroad Volunteers"
or simply "PMRRV" for one of the following amounts:
Single Membership: $30.00
Family Membership: $35.00
This payment will provide you (or you and your immediate family)
with one full year's membership.

4. Mail the Application Form and check to:

P.O. Box 1244
Poway, CA 92074-1244

When your application has been processed, a letter of acknowledgment
will be sent to you.

Any Member wishing to become an Active Member also needs to complete a "City of Poway Volunteer" form, which enables the City to recognize you as an official Volunteer. This protects you and the City in the event of an accident, loss of personal belongings, etc., while on City property. To obtain a "City of Poway Volunteer" form, contact the Train Barn Office.

Current Opportunities With The PMRRV

Operations
Learn to operate any or all of the following vehicles -

  • 1907 Steam Locomotive (Engineer, Fireman, Conductor)

  • 1894 Los Angeles Yellow Line Trolley (Motorman, Conductor)

  • 1950 Fairmont Gang Car (Speeder) (Driver, Conductor)

  • 1880 Rider Hot Air Pumping Engine (Operator/Demonstrator)

    Maintenance
    Help to "keep the wheels turning" by taking responsibility for one
    or more of the following areas that require routine maintenance -

  • One or more of the above vehicles/engines.

  • Separate passenger and supply vehicles
    (passenger coach, tender, ore cars).

  • Track, including crossings, trestles, switches and sidings.

  • Gallows turntable.

    Vehicle Restoration
    Help to restore the following vehicle to operational condition -

      1906 San Francisco 'California Street Railroad' Cable Car
    (Carpenter, Metalworker, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer,
    Painter - and any other type of 'willing hands' worker)

    Training will be given in the skills necessary for all or any of the above positions.

    Free Train Rides
    Members are welcome to ride the train for free as often as they like.
    Simply go to the Ticket Office and and show your Membership Card to get a free day ticket - for every person in your immediate family if you have a Family Membership.
    Come on, Members - pick up your free tickets and spend some time with us!

    Depot Store Discounts
    Receive special Member discounts on merchandise for sale in our
    PMRRV depot store, including clothing, gifts and toys.

    Invitations To "Members Only" Events
    Receive invitations to City-sponsored "Volunteer Appreciation"
    events and PMRRV-sponsored parties and dinners.

    Serving As A Museum Docent or Train Conductor
  • Enjoy the satisfaction of passing on your detailed knowledge of our
    equipment, operations and history to museum and train barn visitors,
    including children on school field trips.

  • Train to become a Conductor responsible for the safety and
    comfort of train, trolley and speeder passengers.

  • Become a safety specialist in the Operation Lifesaver program
    and teach school field trips about safety on and around our railroads.
